It’s been a long time, too long, since I’ve posted anything to my friends. An update. We’re still here! The weather is getting better. (It’s raining today. But my friend and baker Angelo always said, “we need the rain.”) it’s Mother’s Day this Sunday and we all have mother’s. Mine? The best. So cook for […]
Easter is the beginning. I’ve said this before. I walked my neighborhood in Manhattan on Palm Sunday early and it seemed as if overnight things were blooming. I love the Spring despite how short it is sometimes. The days get longer, the light is different and there seeme to be more smiles on everyone’s faces. […]
I only met Steven Shaw a few times. Once at the bakery, he came with his family and friends, another time at the Big Apple BBQ. That first meeting left a strong impression on me. It was that of a man who was passionate about food. He seemed to me someone who wanted to share […]
This Sunday is Palm Sunday. It is to me the true beginning to the year. It’s when I really think about my life, where, and who I’m from. About the people I love, past and present. The spring is the beginning. When life comes back. When after a long winter, we take a deep breath […]
My mothers father, my grandfather of course, said there are only two people in the world, Italians and people who wish they were! When we eat, we’re ALL italian! And check out the great head of hair on the both of us! (Hope it lasts for me!) Me and my long time customer and […]
My niece Jackie and her very good friend 😉 Haakon are in the Bronx for a visit with her uncle. They stopped off at David Greco’s Bronx Beer hall for a stout, a burger, some pork sliders and one of the best macaroni and cheeses I’ve ever had. We’ll be back soon! Check it out […]
To our friends at Mt. Carmel church and to all those parishioners past and present, a happy St. Joseph Day. Oh, and I can’t forget my Joe!
So far this week we’ve seen some of the tour groups roaming the market and the stores along the avenue and 187th street. I caught Chris Borgotti telling students of one group the finer points of pasta. Oh and I had to get my hug and kiss from Kay!
Get this winter behind you and come back to the neighborhood this weekend and get yourself some fresh mozzarella, fish, meat, pasta and vegetables. (oh don’t forget the bread!)
